Occupational Therapy (OT)
The occupational therapist, in partnership with the person with arthritis, strives to promote, maintain or restore maximal ability in all areas of daily living – self care, activities at home and work, and leisure and recreation.
Specific interventions available from an occupational therapist include:
- Splinting – elbow, wrist and hand splints; knee and ankle braces; neck collars
- Assistive Equipment – equipment to support activities of daily living, mobility equipment including walkers and scooters, custom devices as required
- Foot Management – recommendation of footwear, footwear modification, fabrication of soft and semi-rigid foot orthoses
- Education – disease process and management principles, pain and fatigue management, managing daily activities, range of motion exercises, self-assessment and self-management techniques
