Health & Rehab Services Overview
A wide variety of Health and Rehabilitation Services are available in BC to help you in managing your arthritis. These services may be available in a variety of settings that include:
- Hospital-based care, such as outpatient or inpatient arthritis treatment services, in which case the cost of care is covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)
- Community-based private practice physiotherapists, occupational therapists, or complementary treatment providers that offer services for a fee, and
- Home care nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists that may provide services in your home, in which case the cost of care is covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)
One of the key components of successful disease management is to have a team of health care professionals who can assist you in managing your disease when you need them. This team may include some or all of the following health care providers: family physicians, rheumatologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, opthalmologists, physical therapists, (physiotherapists), occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, vocational counsellors, dieticians and/or pharmacists. Some people also find it helpful to receive help from complementary care providers such as a naturopath, acupuncturist, or massage therapist, to just name a few.
