About Us
The Arthritis Society (TAS) BC and Yukon Division was founded in 1948 and is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit organization committed to excellence and leadership in research, care, education and advocacy for people with arthritis. As a 100 per cent donor-funded organization, it raises nearly $5 million annually to support research and the programs and services of The Society. Regional office staff in Kelowna, Langley, Vancouver and Victoria work with community groups and volunteers in many communities in BC to provide support for people living with arthritis, raise funds, increase public awareness and organize educational events.
The Mary Pack Arthritis Program (MPAP) provides direct treatment for arthritis patients through occupational therapy, physiotherapy and social work support. Historically, MPAP was a part of The Arthritis Society funded services. Management of this program was transferred to Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre in 1997. In response to patients’ specified needs for improved care and treatments based on clinical research, The Arthritis Society created the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada, based in Vancouver, in 2000. It operates as an independent research centre and has attracted world-renowned research scientists.
